The Town of Windsor in Berkshire
![]() |
Windsor is dominated by it's castle which dates back to 1068 it sits above the town on a hill and can be seen from quite a distance and although it gives Windsor an ancient image the town itself has some very modern amenities catering for both visitors and residents. it is well served by it's two railway stations and excellent bus services and road connections including the M4 |

The river Thames separates Windsor from Eton which is reached by crossing a pedestrian only bridge seen here, and it is only a short uphill walk to Eton college and church. there are some very interesting shops in Eton and it is well worth a visit if you get the chance. |

The river Thames goes west into Oxfordshire and East towards London although I am reliably informed that it takes some 15 hours to reach London by boat. both commercial pleasure cruisers and private boats travel on the river |

The river is also home to the Royal Swans, these birds are protected by a decree and as such are many in number, they will happily be hand fed by visitors although personally I would not recommend this as they can be unpredictable. |

The Castle is surrounded on three sides by the town and as such is very accusable to visitors and is open to the public on most days, it often hosts visits form overseas Royalty and as such is the home of many processions and of course as the country home of our reigning monarch it sees the changing of the guard on a daily basis at 11:00 |

| Clewer where we are is one of the oldest Saxon
encampments, and it was here where it is said that William the
Conqueror prayed in the local church before going off to battle. the
village of Clewer within is just about three and a half miles from Windsor
Castle itself. and is nowadays more often known as Clewer New Town despite
its historical past. We hope that if you visit Windsor you will enjoy your time, and that the information given above helps you to know a little bit more about the place. if not then there is a very good tourist information centre right opposite the castle just uphill form the Royal Station Mall, pretty much on the right of the picture above. So that's all for the moment in our guide to Windsor if you have any question or suggestion as always please write to us, and we will do our best to answer them. Windsor Castle A Quick View just
